Wednesday Inspiration

Often I visit sites that either inspire me by their design, layout, or assists with getting inspired. I thought what better way to share some of these things that inspire me than on a Wednesday — the middle of the week, hump day, or just-a-few-more-days-till-friday.

This week’s inspiration: Pattern Tap

I came across Pattern Tap from a Six Revisions article detailing websites that help with or inspire UI design. Pattern Tap stood out to me because it simply displays real-life examples of different types of website design, layout, typography and more. At Pattern Tap you can register for a free account, and create a collection of the showcased designs for future inspiration reference. So far I’ve created 4 sets of collections: Simplicity, Dark Style, Forms, and Typography.

Lazy lunch

I’m spending lunchtime on the couch, while my cat Raphael chills on the windowsill. I made a scribble of a plant that sits on my fireplace mantel. I downloaded the app “Scribbles” the other day which is basically MSPaint for the iPhone.

Sketchin’ Skulls

Let’s face it, skulls are cool. No matter what trend they’re used in, they are never played out. With one of my new design interests being T-Shirt design, what better theme to use than something with skulls. It just screams attitude and makes some people nervous - therefore it’s awesome.

I started with a rough sketch, and I mean sandpaper-rough sketch.. I decided on the 3 skulls, friggin’ wings, a sword and a banner that will contain some ultra-witty text that I can’t think up at the moment… So essentially this will be made up of several drawings in Photoshop. Hand-drawn style with blasts of watercolor-ish tones sounds good for this piece.

So far I have the side skull sketched out, and will just mirror it in the final piece. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out!
